I am in the market for a PTO chipper, for my soon to be delivered JD 4310. Does anyone have any specific recommendations as to brand, etc. Thanks in advance.

Because I do not have rear hydraulics I had to go with a self feed model. My Bearcat does an excellent job. There is a lot of pro and con disscussion about the justification of buying one. All I can say is in my opinion it is a good investment. Good luck!

If you want a powerfeed the Salsco 824 is a great unit. Don't take my word for it, do a search for "Salsco" on this board as well as "chippers". On the Salsco you do not need rear remotes.
Good Luck

PS: The 824 will handle 4 inch round wood or 8 inch wide slabs.

The Danuser 18P is a well built PTO chipper that can handle 4inch
diam branches. It is also easy to maintain. As far as auto feed the Danuser system does not require hydraulics . The unit works very nicely on my B7500.

Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find a price, do you have a guesstimate?

I am not sure what the Danuser sells for. If it is the power feed model I think it sells for about $4000 or so. I can tell you it is 4x4 and the feeder is belt driven. The Salsco is 4x8 and the hydraulis feed is much more capible. The extra 2 inched either side will let you handle material with considerbly less pruning than a 4x4 machine. Where are you located and what size is your tractor?

PS the Salsco 824 sells for $5174 plus frieght only option is feed sensing which is $621 more.

The Danuser 18P which is the 4inch with power feed is approx 3000 dollars. The company is in MO you can get a contact number from their web site danuser.com They are good people with a good product at a good price. They sold mine direct to me.

I went to the Danuser website and saw their augers and recoil system. Nothing about a PTO Chipper.

You are correct . I have not been on their site in many months and sure enough I could not find the chipper section tonite. Using a search engine i was able to bring up another Danuser site with the chippers. Who knows for some reason they are not showing the chippers on the main site. ?? liability issues. You may wish to just email or call them for info on the 18P Chipper. Also do a search on TBN under "Danuser Chippers". I found out about these chipppers here at TBN and then called the co for info received a good price and have been very happy with the unit.

You don't see the Danuser chipper on their site because they no longer make them. They were sold to a company I think called Grounds Maintenance Equipment or GME. They also make wood splitters and a large lawn vac. Here’s the link.

GME site

It is a decent chipper for what it is. But if you have a lot of chipping to do especially if you want to do minimal pruning you may want to at least take a look the Salsco their number is 800-872-5726 and here is the link.

Salsco
Good luck and have fun

wbender,
If your mind boggles at the thought of $3-5K for a chipper, you might consider the DR chipper at Country Home Products

Ithe PTO version was not available when I bought mine. Mine is the same rig in a trailerable version with a 18 HP electric start gas engine. It will do 4.5 inch green hardwood. They have a good price and an unbeatable return policy...use it for thirty days and return if you don't like it. I have had mine for three years and think it is great. There was a thread on the DR chipper that can be accessed using search.

Which model do you use with the 7500? Do you think any of them are low enough to use with a BX? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Salsco will soon have a PTO chipper for the BX and like tractors. I beleive it is 3 inch and it will not be power feed but for those who want a basic heavy duty inexspensive unit you'l love it. More news on it soon.

My dealer has a used gearmore for sale. He says its $3800 new - he'll sell for $2500.
He sold it to someone who used it just a little while then decided he needed something larger so it is not much used.
I wonder what the pros and cons are to PTO chippers versus the stand alone - other than I will need my tractor to chip and will have to take off the backhoe everytime I want to chip.
Are they just as strong, quieter etc Does this seem like a good price, anyone have experience with this chipper?

I've had PTO chippers on all of my tractors since my Ford 1710. I like th eidea of not haveing to maintain another engine. All of my chippers were Valbys and I liked them very much. My current unit is a CH160 with hydraulic feed.

Well I finally went to check out the chipper.
I could see at a glance, it isn't strong enough.
I don't think it could chip 6" dia oak for very long...
I think my next step is auction or rental yard sales for one of the bigger stand alone models - vermeer is looking good.
