okay, I forgot to do the break-in procedure on my pto, only mowed a couple of times. Is it pointless to run the procedure at this point or is the damage done?

I wouldn't sweat it. If you've mowed with it, it's fine. I think the 10 on/off 'break-in' cycles is for the dealers to verify the clutch holds (air gap set right) nothing comes apart, stops working, or no belts fly off! They've got the science down-pat on lawn/garden tractor electric PTO clutches these days. They either work or they don't /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif!

Now, I've gone through the manual to confirm the type of oil I'm supposed to use, and it says cub cadet brand 10w-40 (i believe, I'll dbl check) rating SL or SG (or higher?). Can I use conventional automotive motor oil as it tends to be rated better than this?

I used the same automotive oil that I used in my cars for 26 years in my CC 1450 (usually Quaker State 5W-30) and am using it now in my 3235. When I had to replace the oil pan on the 1450, due to wear from missing mounting bolts, the engine was spotless inside with 800-900 hours.
