Pto damage

   / Pto damage #11
I learned some of this the hard way. Some of my u-joints are damaged, but so far are working fine, on my roto-tiller. The setup instructions are written by a nit-wit. There was absolutely no mention of checking the angles when the tiller was raised. If the damage had been worse I would have consulted a student lawyer for advice. This has been a good remedy for me a few times.

Sounds like PTO is being raised outside of tolerance of the u-joint.

I am not supposed to raise the cutter or tiller up all the way up when it is running and that is what is causing the damage and it is my fault for the damage. ....

If the shafts are to long , it will not matter if it's running or not it will still have the issue.

My Woods tiller instructions say not to lift the tiller any higher than necessary to clear the ground when tiller is in operation. I always assumed it was a safety issue with the tines turning an all. I never even considered that it could damage the equipment. I'm glad this came up before I did something like it myself. Although I feel bad for the OP. That's go'tta suck. I would like to see the picks too if they are available.
