PTO Drive Shaft won't adjust lengthwise?

I guess the question now is how did it get bent under cover of your barn as you described in your original post that you unhooked it and stored it in your barn. Perhaps it was bent when you moved it into the barn. Whatever happened, you need to figure out what it was so you dont do it again.
Sometimes they get bent when the bush hog gets raised up too high as when backing it up a steep hill. I have seen BH's where they have very little clearance between the shaft and the BH deck when raised up to normal full lift height.

Bent or Twisted?. As in bent up or down in the horizontal plane, or Twisted slightly around the shaft's axis?

I think it must have hit the drawbar. When I moved it I didn't hook-up the PTO only the 3ph. It has a very slight bow in it and only the outer shaft appearantly! No twisting was evident. the shop is going to replace the bent larger diameter shaft only. I will certainly be more careful in the future! The positive is I am learning a lot.

I know yo found your problem, bu I'll add this in case someone else needs it. Bought a used pto generator, and the shaft wouldn't extend. found that it had a small cable inside, tied around a roll pin at each end, that keeps the shaft from coming completly apart. Evidently the PO had driven away from the gen with the shaft still attached and broke the cable. When he put it back together, the frayed end of he broken cable jammed in between the shaft halves. Had to beat it apart, then removed cable - it works fine. By the way, I lube my inner shaft w/never sieze.
