PTO Driveline stuck together- grr...

I have somewhat the same problem. I just bought a RM48 for really shy money. The implement end of the shaft is "stuck" on the main shaft 'flywheel or big pulley". The tractor half of the shaft is missing and I have no idea what size the forward half is.
The U joint is nice and tight and the whole mechanism [ belt, bearings and spindles ] moves easily with a 1" open end wrench on the female end of the PTO shaft. Does anyone know what the size or part number is on the PTO shaft?

Lots of different brands of pto shafts. The local dealership removes half the driveshaft and takes it inside for storage. The used implement is left out in the yard. You get the matching half when pay for your purchase. The half you have left unbolts. You unbolt it and head off to the supply house to get a whole new unit. Note that a whole new driveshaft unit may be the perfect length or may need to be cut to fit.

OK, Thanks JimRB, I never knew that the PTO shafts are separated by dealers on used sales, makes sense. This implement was consigned with a very old and cool looking tractor [it is on a highway and I was never able to get a good look at the tractor,, just the mower ] I made a few calls to the dealer and they told me that the owner decided not to sell after all. I noticed, however; that the mower was stored high on a rack and the tractor was gone, I stopped by and bough the mower for a whopping $100!! I guess I will head off to my local TS and Mickey Mouse a shaft. Thanks for your help!
