I think the 1700 is about 20 ENGINE hp, the pto hp will be 6 to 8 LESS...

With 13 pto hp, it will properly run a 6.5 to 7KW gen set, and 20% LESS than that, for continuous use...

to me i would say yes, tractor standing there, and engine running high RPM's for 540 at PTO. a lot of grain elevators, to water pumps, to square bail elevators, to just simply rotary cutting down in the pasture no wind movement what so ever, and radiator nearly pack full of crud, while the rotary cutter behind ya just smacking away.

as long as engine stays cool, there should be no issue of tractor standing still running something from the PTO.

Moving or not, tractor engines are designed to only be used at 80% max engine power, for continuous duty...

I can run my WinPower PTO alternator off of the mower driveshaft on my tired 22 hp F-935 without any problems. I run everything except the house A/C. Its on a separate meter so I can't bridge it over.

The genny is 540 input rpm, so I use a speed reducer. You would not need that to run your alternator at engine speed.

You should be able to run pro hp rating continual.. Otherwise a tractor would be useless to mow with, etc.

Whatever the pto is, divide that by 2 for a rough estimate of realistic, problem free power you can generate.

Not bad to have a little more generator than tractor. Adds built in thermal protection .

I'd get a 10k head for a 1700, and expect to make 8.5k out of it as long as it had diesel.

Pretty sure his phone auto corrected PTO to pro. So it would be the continuous PTO HP rating (as opposed to the peak PTO HP rating that it can only do for a little bit).

Tractors are rated at MAX pto hp, but continuous is 20% less... I "guess" that's what he was saying?

Still stands that the 18 pto HP tractor can drive 12Kw of load as an absolute maximum.
