Greetings! I have a TC29D, and since the day I purchased it new, engaging the rear pto has been kinda hard to do. I have to push on the lever real hard, and it feels like its just bending the lever arm.. the I have to keep pressure on it while I let out on the clutch, then it makes a slight grinding sound and engages. It doesnt seem to be right. I have tried 2 things to remedy this.. I have tried to adjust my clutch, and I have adjusted the control rod that comes from the pto engagement lever. Anyone else experiencing this problem with the TC29/33? thanks!

Does it happen only when you have somthing attached to the PTO? I have a new TC33da that has this issue but only when I have somthing attached. I know that shouldnt matter . /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No, it does it whether something is attached or not. There have been other posts about the poor design of the levers on the class II boomers. They are stiff and hard to use. My pto lever has gotten worse and it is a chore to engage/disengage the rear pto.

When my dealer dropped off my tractor he mentioned that the transmission should be in neutral before you engage but sounds like that's what you are doing . It's a design issue but I'm not sure the best approch to resolve .

Typhoon,

I have a ‘04 TC33DA and have problems with engaging the rear PTO. I did not use it for the first year of its life but it has given me problems since. I (and I expect you) am still under warrantee and will bring this up at 300 hr service. They have adjusted it once but I could not notice a difference.

I am assuming you have lubed the pivot point which did nothing for me. I would get the dealer involved; I certainly am going to. Seems to be a design/tolerance problem. Even so the rough engagement is not right.

I had problems with the parking brake lock not disengaging. They “adjusted” it three times before replacing it, under warrantee. Every time I talked to service they asked if anything needed fixed. I believe they knew it needed replaced and may have been waiting to get NH to completely replace it. They have been very good with warrantee items. Original list included 12 or so items most of which were fixed at 50 hrs including the dreaded NH corroding battery problem. They replaced the battery, tray, and bolts once and agreed to do it again. The replacement battery has begun to corrode the positive terminal and the tray. I will be looking at the Odyssey battery for a replacement. They will credit me the prorated warrantee price of the NH battery.

Hey,
Had the same problem. I followed the linkage under the tractor to where it enters the transmission. At that point you'll find one bolt holding a peice of metal which holds the arm into the transmission that the linkage connects to. It had become all rusted and the linkage just didn't have the mechanical advantage to turn the bugger. I unbolted it. Filed off the paint in the curved side. And greased it all up. Ofcourse I had to bend my own linkage back into place also. You'll love it when your done. Better than when I drove it off the lot when the paint was already causing friction. Let me know if you need a pic. Michael

BTW This was also causing my PTO to disengage while out cutting the lawn.

Thanks for the replies! Mike, yes it would be great if you could provide a picture. Then I will try what you are saying. I hope it works. Its a real pain to engage my pto, and I use it almost daily. I have to push so hard on my pto lever that it sometimes just bends the arm and doesnt even engage the pto.

My TC 29 has never had this problem. It works great.

So the blue paint is the problem? Glad I ordered mine in red! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Good post, Michael. If my DX PTO sticks, I know what to do. Thanks.
