I was reading in some other posts on another web site. 3 people were tilling with the 2210 hit a rock or hard ground and broke the rear pto so much that the shaft was off by 15 degrees in the most serious case. Have any of you hurd this? have any of you guys tilled with your 2210? Thanks

here is the link if you guys want to read the posts. They probably make more sense they i do /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

jdmann,

First, the 60" tiller is too large for the 2210. 48-50" is probably the max. Also, there is some truth to the 2210 liking a slightly shorter PTO shaft than many standard ones. I'm thinking of the one that came with my PTO spreader, and if I'm not careful as to how high I position it, I can really jam the shaft between the implement and the PTO. Many posters here have used their 2210's and I don't mean babying them, and have had no problems. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hi, JDFanatic. It's just my opinion, but you should adjust/shorten that PTO shaft before a fateful slip damages either the implement or the tractor. I've shortened a few PTO shafts in my time and had to shorten one for a Befco PTO spreader when I had my 2210. Here's a link to a Befco tech page on the proper procedure. All you need is a hacksaw, a tape measure, and a vise. This is one of those "measure ten times, cut once" procedures. Replacement PTO shafts are not cheap. I'm sure your local dealer or machine shop could take care of the procedure, too.

BigPete,

Thanks for the link. I've been operating my PTO spreader without shortening the link by just being careful, but all along I've intended to shorten the drive shaft. After reading the above link, I just got reminded of why I would want to! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

jdmann, I have a full size KK 48" tiller, 48" bush hog and a PHD. All shafts fit fine with no binding. I have hit some huge rocks with my tiller, that and the bush hog both have dents from the rocks. I always make sure the slip clutch is in working order. Another thing when I am first breaking ground I go shallow and run it about 1500 rpm. After I have gone over it once I pick up the fist size rocks and bigger then go over it at full depth. Trust me I did not baby this thing. Just used some common sense and all worked great.
