Generator pto generator / florida huricane

I passed up an auction yesterday where an 18kw was, with PTO on an small trailer and had a draw bar tow hook up and 2 lower links for stablizing durring running. OLDER one, lookd OK but was leaking a bit at the lower Gear Box seal. I didn't stay to see what it went for, it was tied to an 8/9N which was in GOOD shape un-restored, no hydraulics on it though... (I didn't stay as I went for the brush hog and said nope don't want that it had been BEAT enough so that the left side was pushed out about 4" and cracks started every where but the FRAME was OK, and probalby was a 60~+ hp GB.)

anyhow hope you all do OK was watching news a few min ago, BAD looking storm!

WHO is in OCALA?? my EX used to live there and her family I THINK still does, I THINK she went back to Wichita KS... Nice pretty area, just too many OLDER folk drive around looking for addresses to people they DON'T know! lol. I was there right about 2 months after they KILLED the HARRIS chain of lakes by over treating for weeds! (1991~2)

STUPID morons in there weed treatment programs! I wanted to catch a few of those FLA bass! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I live a stones throw from ocala... usually go there every day while working.

That 18kw genny was a bit big for an 8n. 8n is rated at 27.3 engine hp, and 23.3 pto hp.

My pto genny is going to be 13kw, and says it needs 24pto hp for full rated load.

I'll guess that genny would kick out 12.5-13kw if the 8n is in good order.

Definitely let us know how it works - I'm curious to see if the governor on the tractor can keep the voltage and frequency fairly constant when load changes.

You're really lucky that you have multiple tractors - relegating one of them to gen-duty during storms is the way to go.

You should get a 60Hz frequency meter to set the generator not a volt meter. I have a reed type that I picked up surplus many years ago. My test set that I built has the freq meter plus a volt meter in it. Seems like the voltage was always higher than expected. In the order of 125-135 v. A little hard on light bulbs but everything else generally was OK.

My dad lived in Ocala, in 'On-Top-of-the-World'. Really nice place. He moved to his 'last condo' as he called it about 11 years ago. Sure do miss him. Thanks for bringing up some fond memories. Hope all is well for the Florida friends......

The genny sopposedly needs 24 pto hp to run full load. I'll power it with my 33/34 hp 1954 NAA.. which has about 28/29 pto hp. If that won't keep up, I'll pull the Nh 7610s out and hook it up... with 90ish hp available.. I imagine it will be able to handle the load fine...

Yep.. and my wife actually agrees too.. It is nice leaving one hooked up to the mower.. one hooked to the box blade.. one for small mowing or pulling a cart.. etc.. one to pull a pasture drag.. etc... genny.. etc.

Heck.. For kicks I might let my old JD-B power it. It doesn't have a 3pt lift.. but does have a pto.. and it is inthe high 20's on hp as well... hearing that old pop-pop run would be great.

And mrcaptbob.. great hearing from you.
ontop of the world is a nice place.

my pto generator has a built in frequency meter visible from the drivers seat so i can regulate it from there, i found if i set it at 1 to 1 1/2% over when i apply load it settles into a 60 hz without any difficulty. i have tried to overload it with cycvling the well, refridg, house stuff and it holds really steady after a second to stabilize. i run a 25 kw generac with a 19pto hp new holland, i dont get the full output on the generator, but the diesel sure has a whole lot of torque to keep the power steady during motor startup more than any gasoline genset i have ever had.

i also bought a dual voltage and freq. meter at radio shack, that just plugs into the generator or the 110 outlet, it also is pretty usefull.
