LS U5030
Was out this morning on the new U5030 and had a problem. I'm still playing around with all the features and pushing all the buttons.
I have my logging winch on the back for a little ballast weight. I turned on the pto switch, it turned for about 5-10 seconds then stopped and the transmission oil pressure light came on. Pto light was still on. Did it both in auto and manual mode numerous times.
It was chilly this morning but not cold (20F). The tractor was running for about 15 minutes.

Also, this unit does not have the pro gear lever on the left side (the 540-750-1000 range lever). There is a covered spot where it obviously goes, but no lever.

Calling dealer tomorrow.

Do you know if the PTO was spinning?

Yes. It will spin for 5-10 seconds and then stop as the pressure light comes on.

And to answer the next question: yes, the fluids are topped off.

I believe it's fine and many people will argue that 20 is cold, not chilly! Mine will do the same thing until it's warmed up. I was told there is a very fine screen in there that slows the flow enough for the warning light to come on.

I let mine warm up for 15-20 minutes, go back out and turn the heater on and come in and post something snarky on TBN about how my rake style grapple is the best or those Green tractors are overpriced. Another 15-20 minutes later she's good to go! This only happens when it's chilly........

I've never actually used my PTO when it was this cold ... so I can't confirm that is the case. I would think that if your hydraulics are flowing (regardless of temp) that the PTO should spin. It would make sense that it's a "flow" issue though. Perhaps your hydraulic filter is clogged (or even frozen)? Have you reached the 50hr service mark yet? Might be a good time to change the hydraulic filter and see if that helps.

I have two types of warning lights that come on EVERY time it's cold. The red transmission light ( same as the OP) and the N (neutral) indicator will flash. (I have a power shuttle)

The transmission light will go out fairly quickly (less than a minute after it's started) but the flashing N can take a while. In the manual it says to let the tractor warm up until the N light stops flashing.

If I get impatient and run the tractor before it warms up the F,N, or R light will continue to flash, but the tractor will still go. The manual says do not work the tractor hard until this stops flashing. Depending on how cold it is the red transmission light may come back on, which would turn off the PTO if it were engaged.

The tractor has always started great in the cold and this winter has not let up since November. I really believe the OP 's tractor is fine it just needs a little more warm up time.

I'm hoping it's in need of more warm-up time, but 20F isn't all that cold. One of the reasons I got this tractor was for woods work in the Winter when 0 or -10 is fairly common. I need the PTO for my Farmi winch.

I'm only at 11 hours.

Update, I just been out on the thing for an hour or so, rammin around my trails through the snow. Tractor was good and warm. Still no PTO.
I called the dealer, he sounded stumped and was going to call LS and see what they had to say.

When did they start have the 3 speed PTO on the u5030 I thought that was on the P models.

Not sure if yours is the same but mine can be changed to turn off the PTO when the 3pt is raised, is that the case with yours? If that is a feature I would lower your winch and try again. Is the red transmission light off? Just trying to eliminate the easy stuff first.

My owners manual says it should be there.

Transmission warning light is off, except when I turn on the PTO.
I tried it with the 3pt down; no good.

I've started and ran mine way! Colder than 20 without issue( more like -20). Just have to let it run 15-20 minutes to warm up. As far as the pto selector lever I too have the same spot for it but no selector handle. Not sure since I know you have a cat 2 3 point on the back but it's possible that your model like mine does not have that option and the factory just used the same plastics as the models that do come with the selector abilities.

Update:
PTO now works.
I went out yesterday late afternoon to put it under the lean-to and turned on the pto just for the **** of it. It came on and stayed on! I let it run a few minutes and shut it down. Went out again this morning (10F) and let the tractor warm up 5 minutes and the pto stayed working again!
I'm guessing it (the pto) hadn't turned over in a month or so while we had some decently cold days and nights (quite a few -10F). Not sure how the thing is plumbed, but some sensor tube must have been close to froze up. Running it for a hour or so yesterday and letting it sit might have warmed it up enough so that when I went out later in the PM, it allowed itself to stay going. I don't know.

I was happy with the dealership. I called yesterday afternoon to let them know what was going on. Got a call a couple of hours later from the owner saying he had a call into LS headquarters, but no reply yet. After another 1/2 hour he called back with their (LS) diagnosis: the pto runs on a hydraulic clutch pack and it just might have gotten too cold and really needs to warm up to work. Sounds about right. I need to call them back and tell them all is well.

I wonder if some moisture from condensation collected some place and froze....

Well, at least it was an easy fix!

Spoke too soon.
Was working, now it isn't again.
Dealer said LS said that it is likely one of 3 things:
1. It's just too cold. (I think we eliminated that cause as it was going first thing today, then a half hour later, it wasn't working)
2. There is a sensor in there that's probably bad.
3. The filter screen is very, very fine and might be clogged.

He's going to get the parts from LS and then make arrangements to come get it. He didn't want to come get it and then wait on parts.

I thought I read a post on a faulty PTO and could not find it. The guy Hi-Jack another thread here it is.
