Dutch445, Thank you. I could not "google" that up, no mater what I tried. The cienormand are too large for me but, the Erskine are the ones I had been looking at. The 60" would fit my tractor but $'s are still pretty high. Still not sure which way I'll go but I really appreciate the link.

How much are you being quoted for the ERskine?
From the pricing I have on them, you certainly can buy the JD 47" front mount for less.. and I honestly think it would do the job very well for you, without having the loader on the front. Make sure you have enough rear weight, ballast box, load tires, etc.. and if you need chains get a set. That loader comes off in about 2 mins, and the snowblower isn't that hard to put on and take off also, if you needed to switch from one to another frequently.
Do you need to use the loader often in winter?

Dutch445,

Thankyou. The cienormand are too large for me but, the 60" Erskine, and their website, is exactly what I was looking at the other day and could not find their sit again. I thought I posted this reply earlier but, apparently it did not come through. Still pondering pros and cons but appreciate your providing the link.

Dutch445,

Sorry, guess the other reply did post, my browser didn't update. You're right about the price (nearing $4K with controls and shipping but, that might be Canadian). I was simply looking at all options and intrigued by the possibility of having the loader and blower without any changing. I think I may need the loader, often, in the winter but, I have not had a blower on a tractor yet. I'm leary of the JD 47" ability to deal with the drifts that frequently pile up and the mounds of snow and dirt the town truck plows into the end of my driveway. When I finally bite the bullet, one way or another, I'll let folks know how it works out.

You won't have any trouble going through whatever snow you have, with the 47" snow blower. It's a hog, and well built. Talk to your dealer and find out who already has the front Deere blowers or throwers. Then talk to these owners to find out what they handle. Even on the 400 series lawn tractors and the X series, these front mounts are snow pigs, IMO.

And the 47" for sure (IMO) will tackle a lot more snow than what you plan to drive over and through just to feed a rear forward pull system.

Good luck with your decision.

beenthere,

Thank you. I thought the 47" looked a little light but, I'll take your advice and check with some owners and the dealer. I was hoping for a wider cut but, if it's that tough, it should do the drive fast enough to keep me from being out 'til 11:00 every snow night, as in the past. However, it will still be under the drifts, often.

I used snowfence to keep the drifting down on my drive, until the trees were big enough to slow the snow down. Now I get little drifting.

I use a front blade to plow snow (pic), and a search on Western plow will bring up some discussion. I can drop it quick and put on the FEL quick if that is needed. You can do the same with the front snow blower and FEL (probably within 10 minutes time). In a good number of years, never have needed the FEL to move any snow that the front blade couldn't handle. Hoping someday to get that much snow just to experience it, but nothing yet.

Ahh, the south,

no snow there, just an occasional hurricane or tornado.. maybe an ice or hail storm once in a while!
