Okay guys my uncle picked up a massey 1250 but he askedme to ask a question? First does there need to be something attached to the pto shaft in order for it to spin kinda like a safety item or should it spin if you put it in pto reguardless of weather or not there is something attached to it? Also The pto switch broke ( the one that is on the colum next to the wheel) could that be replaced with just a regukar toggle switch or does it have to be a special type of switch? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifalsomI am not sure if the second question has any thing to do with the first question? Very good possiablity but that switch is the only way I can turn on the pto, so any help would be appricated. Thanks.

It can be turned on weather there is anything attached to it or not. There is a cover that came with them when new that covered the shaft. I would say it would be far easier to get the factory switch to install. It isn't just a simple 2 or 3 wire switch, it has several wires.

The way your post is "worded" indicates that you guys haven't been able to make the PTO "spin" when you turn it on with the switch.
I don't know about the 1250, but the 1400 series models have another lever to engage/disengage the PTO just above the rear axle housing on the left side of the tractor. If this lever is set to disengage the PTO it won't spin even if you engage the switch on the column. The purpose of the lever I'm speaking of is to allow you to turn the pto shaft to match up with your shaft as you slide it on. Hope this helps with your problem. Might not need a new switch!

That lever is to the left and behind the seat on a 1250. It has to be engaged before the switch on the dash will work. The reason for the lever is to be able to chose mid or rear PTO or both. After is choice is made then flip the switch.

Thanks guys i tried that lever on the side, and still nothing as far as the switch it is defintally broken the top part of the switch came off in my hand. so that is defintally broken. i will replace the switch and then see if it works? i think it has to do with that switch, thanks again guys.
