Hi all,
I've been educating my self on what is required for the build but have a few questions I hope I can get answered. The main reason for the build is to run a 5' hanson snowblower (standard flow). PTO output is realistically in the mid to low 20 hp range due to my altitude being 7700'. I plan to use this pump, 7.8 CU IN PRINCE HC-PTO-9A PTO PUMP 540 RPM which requires a 27 hp input. My questions are, if I use this pump which is rated for a few more horses then I can make am I loosing to much efficiency, if anyone knows of a better pump that will fit my needs please let me know and how is the quality the prince pumps?
Also, I've seen where a few guys have mounted the pump to the reservoir and installed a pto shaft, Can that be accomplished with any pump? If so what parts do I need to make it work.

Thanks for the help

You don't loose efficiency you loose pressure. So the pump is rated at 27hp for 2300psi you could only get 2100psi at 25hp. Will you notice? probably not. You can mount any pump to the res. as long as it is rated for the pto rpm and will accept a driveshaft input. I also recommend a input bearing for the drive on the pump. and be sure it is the right rotation. Obviously the pump needs to meet the specs you need to do whatever you require. CJ

See attached for power pack I built about 10 years ago using a Prince pump to power a hydraulic rotary mower on the front end loader. If I recall correctly the pump is 5.7 gpm at 540rpm.

I have never seen a snowblower (fortunately); I assume yours has a hydraulic motor. If so, will your planned pump produce the required flow (gpm)?

Thanks for the info, FarmerFord your picture gives me some ideas.
Yes the pump will make the required flow for the snow blower.
