Is there anyone who makes a reverser for the PTRo? I want to make my tiller reverse rotate.
Or am I gonna have to spend big money on a new reverse rotation tiller. :(

- Thanks.

Just curious.. why do you want it to rotate in reverse?

You could always get a pto hydro pump, and a matched motor, rig up a sump and a set of spool controlls....

reverse rotation tillers tend to hold the tractor back and thrash the soil around more. Forward rotating tillers tend to propell the tractor forward and have a harder time digging in. I think their is more to a reverse tiller than just spinning it in the opposite direction. Tine direction, and many other details.

Thanks for the links and the replys. I did google it , but didn't get many specific hits...mihght have mistyped it or something??

After using a reverse rotating tiller, you never want to go back to the old style. Sports fields here are renovated with specific specs to use a rev. rot. tiller.

Do your first pass in reverse. Wouldn't that be the same? You'd leave some tire tracks but you could cover them by going over it again in the forward direction. Turning the tiller backwards is just going to mean you are clubbing the ground with the non-sharpened side of the tines.

As others have mentioned, you will need to swap all of your tines around to cut in the opposite direction.

It should be noted that some tiller gearboxes allow you to turn them around for reverse rotation. There was a recent post about a Howse Tiller that could do this.

You will also need to put some added protection (guards) on the front of the tiller since it will now be spitting debris towards you.

If you are serious about a reverse rotation tiller, you may want to think about selling yours and purchasing one. I think Tarheel has a 58" RTR on ebay for around $1700.

There must not be a pto reverser out there, unfortunately.

We'll probably just dissasemble the tiller, and reverse the gear box. We can do that over the winter, cheaper than shelling out a few thousand on a new one.

I'm not sure that one would hold up behind the 60hp JD, I priced a Landpride for a little over $4,000.00.

Be carefull, if tiller is chain driven, you'll need to make modifications on chain spanner - move it on opposite side if is enough place for it.

Hub City makes one that may work for you (depending on your horsepower).

There was a Kubota made years ago.... i'd say in the eighties, that had a foolish reverse running PTO. It required all its implements made specifically for it. I have seen them advertised for sale with PTO reversers installed, so that they could be used with standard implements. I've never actually looked at the PTO reversers, but i've seen the ads for the tractors with them included. I assume it just slips on to the PTO, and is a small gearbox with a standard rotation, splined PTO shaft output. If my memory serves me correctly..... it was a B 6100 ??? Surely someone here has one that could help with this.

Perhaps I'm missing something but couldn't you just till in both directions:confused:

It was the B 6000 not the 6100. The 6100 rotated normally. I owned a B 6000 and searched unsuccessfully for a PTO reverser for months. I even called Hub City. They no longer make them.

The only way I could see reversing a tiller would be fabbing up an extra gear box on the tiller itself that did it. For example, old VW vans/buses from the 1960s had a drop-axle gearbox (final drive) that reversed the direction of the axles. (You had to flip the ring gear over to the other side to use a bug tranny in them or you'd have a 4-speed reverse  ).

I'm not sure if the old farm tractors with final drives reversed the rotation or not...

Landpride makes a reverse tiller. I just bought one. Works great 44 inch something like that. I was afraid of stalling , I have 17hp at the PTO. 44 inch works great for a kitchen garden just doing rows with the wheel space in between. I can reach everything from both sides. It can offet if I want it to cover the wheel
