pto rpm on 1700

My pto rpm lever has three positions. Could someone please tell me which position is rated at 740 rpm? I have been pushing the lever all the way down (the lowest lever position) to run my equipment. Is this correct? I don't have a manual. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure your correct....you should be at or near 540 RPM in the first position (low) and depending what engine RPM you running.

using my finishing mower i operate on the little red mark i think about 2500 rpm. i was hoping someone had a manual that would show exactly which gear is what rpm, although i've never had any problems with equipment running in that lever position.

The YM 1700 only runs so fast, it has a governor that keeps it from running any faster. If you put it down in the lowest position, and run the tractor at the highest RPM, it will be right around 540 rpm at the pto. The engine will be running around 2400 rpm, but of course the meter may be off a little, so it may not be exact, but close enough. I run mine that way all the time, and it works out great.
