They design the cutter to be worked at 540 rpm. Whats so hard to understand about that? Do you only drive your car at 1500rpms to get better life out of it? No thats silly. You drive at a sensible speed and get your desired results. you drive faster if you are in a hurry and want to get there (i.e. done faster) you drive a little slower and take things easier to put less wear and tear on the vehicle (maybe last longer) but you certainly dont watch your rpms because you might wear out the engine sooner in a car. The tractor motors we are dealing with are much much stronger yet we treat them with kid gloves. The machine was built to do work. If you don't need all the hp that the 540rpm gives you, pickup a gear and mow faster. If you are REALLY concerned about it, some machines (deere for instance since this is the only one I am aware of and I just realized this is a kubota forum, oops) has an e-pto option to get 540(!!!!!!) pto rpm at a lower engine speed.
