I wouldn't put anything directly on the parts that need air flow. A cage around them should be fine. I do audi enclosures and sound proofing as part of my living.. seldom do we put acoustic insulation right on bodies that generate heat.. hat just serves to build up the heat.. and that will lead to degredation of oil.. seal, and parts.
a cage should be fine... look at the big diesel whisper gensets.. opent he cage and htere is at least 1-2 foot of romm in there between the insulation and the engine.. plus there's positive ventilation.
