Thanx for the input, Skip.
I mow a lot of stuff for folks that isn't full of heavy brush - thick fescue and such. This is when I'm running around 1800 in 8th. Heavier brush, lower gear higher RPMs.
Anyway, I tried this out yesterday. Much better cutting, no bog-downs in thick stuff. 1500-1800 RPMs works fine w/o apparent over-running of the brushhog.
Some day, when I figure out how, I'll clock the PTO shaft to see exactly where it's running. In the mean time the PTO appears to be real close to the same speed with 1000 selected @1500-1800 as with 540 selected @2200-2500.
If I ever get an accurate measurement I'll post back.
