3-Point Hitch PTO spline yolk pin won't depress

Absolutely nothing wrong with the soak approach and I would try that first too. But that shaft is pushed in way way beyond the lock point and I strongly suspect the pin is already sheared off and the splines jammed.

I agree, but I'd try the easiest stuff first.

I would try to remove the retainer holding that pin in place. Then you might be able to pull the pin straight up. At least then you'd only have a small area of the PTO shaft damaged rather than dragging it back to the notch.

Ended up grinding the sucker. Can I just get the front section replaced without replacing whole shaft? Thanks for everyone's advice, much appreciated

That piece is called the PTO yoke. I was able to buy one on Amazon for about $60:

To size it, you have to measure against two things: your PTO shaft and your universal joint. PTO shaft is normally 1-3/8", 6 spline. Universal joint has two measurements, the diameter of the cups and the distance between cups, plus the style of clips that hold it in.

You'll probably need a new universal joint too although it is possible to take the yoke apart without damaging it. The universal joint that goes with that yoke is: Amazon.com: Moog 995 Universal Joint: Automotive

Back in post #10, he said he thinks it got pushed forward on the spline when he backed the sander into a large pile of ice/snow.

I don't think that should happen if the shaft was shorter. It sounds like either the top link was too long or the pto was too long.

I get that the yoke pushed forward on the PTO shaft. I was just looking for a postmortem report on the situation. It doesn't look like push pin sheared. Were the splines damaged? Did metal get mauled? It retrospect, might it have been possible to pull it back in position with a puller?

In any case, I'm glad it's off.
