PTO won't disengage

Hello all, sorry about not coming back with a photo - it all went a bit mad here and I have not had a chance to do that - I have had a mechanic friend who works on Massey Fergusons come over and it could be that we had hydraulic fluid in the system rather than 15W 40 - it was bought that way and one of the hoses was leaking at the time on the loader so the company that sold it to us told us to replace the hose and top up with hydraulic fluid. Anyway, we have put some oil in today but did not have enough to run it so I am going over tomorrow to pick up some more and see how it goes! The one good thing is that we have freed up the seized 4WD selector! - it was totally rusted but we got it free and wire brushed it up so it is nice and smooth again and given plenty of grease around the plunger so that bit is running again after years of neglect from the previous owner/s. I will post up how we get on once I have had a chance to do the oil fill.

Hello all. An update on this....

I bought an 8ft topper and it was delivered the other day. I had the people fit it to make sure all was good, and we managed to work out that the controls (which are not as per the manuals I have), need to be in a certain configuration to work. I did manage to top about 3 acres and then all the hydraulics stopped altogether! Mechanic has been out today and like everything else on this tractor, the hydraulics have had little to no service work done on them and the metal filter for it was clogged with gunk. We gave it a thorough clean, and so far the hydraulics are back in action! (One further problem with this tractor is that there should be a cover over the 4WD linkage underneath and there is not - I did not know this but when I was looking for hydraulic problems found the drive shaft completely wrapped tight in grass which took me about an hour to get off with a knife. One more item to add to the list of jobs to make this a safe tractor!
