How does the rear PTO work when you aren't on the seat to operate a rear PTO wood chipper? I assume most tractors are like mine in which the PTO disengages once you leave the seat. Do you have to disable this safety device to run a chipper? Sure can't feed a chipper from the seat.

Some will run the PTO if the seat is folded forward.

Look in your manual for PTO operation and off seat PTO operation.
There is a procedure to run the tractor as a stationary power unit (chipper, generator, pumps, etc.)...all three of my Deeres have had this capability. Your NH probably does too.
There are tractors that do not have this capability...the Deere 3032e is one that I know of. Pretty dumb move to not offer the off seat capability on any tractor, IMHO.

If your NH doesn't have off seat PTO capability, you can jumper the switch or just put a weight (50 lb sand bag, for example) on the seat. But do read your manual first!

On mine the engaged parking brake allows the PTO to run without an operator in the seat.

I can't imagine engineers too short-sighted to have the function available for chippers, log splitters, pumps, logging winches, etc... really would hamstring a units capabilities/sales potentials.

There is a little lever that depresses under my seat when you sit down. I have it zip tied down. Mainly because I use the front loader arms with a QC attachment to move my trailer around and I can't see the ball. So I need to stand up to look over the hood.

Great info. I will check my manual and try some of these things. Thanks for the help.

Got a 3038e so I'm one of those folks that has to put a sack with a couple of tie down chains on the seat to run the chipper. Considered a bypass switch but just stuck with the bag o chains...

Huh, my "system" will alarm with a buzzer for about 15 seconds when I raise off the seat, with the pto engaged. Then the buzzer quits. No need to bypass anything - the pto continues to function. I checked the OP manual - this is exactly the way its supposed to work. My "system" is only a warning - your hinny is off the seat and the pto is engaged, carry on.

Just picked up a hardly used patu dc 40 for my kubota 2620. About 6 hours of use this morning great machine. On kubota b series if put in neutral with parking brake engaged the forward tilt on seat allows pto use while off tractor

On my new holland Boomer 30, the hydro gear selector has to be in neutral and parking brake set. It will beep for a while when you turn on the pto and get off the seat but stops eventually.
