I bought a tl100a with rhino tw84 brush cutter, and it works great. But as this is a pretty healthy unit, I am thinking about a pull behind unit for my atvs. I own a lot of hunting acres and there are times when it would be handier to clean some of the trails up with the atvs. Any recommendations or experiences that can be shared???

Thanks - Dan

Add to post - this unit will require its own power

A buddy bought the largest and heaviest duty one he could find. It was about 2 grand. Was the worst waste of money he ever spent. He couldn't say enough bad things about it. Low on power, very very slow cut rate, easy to bend / brake blades, hung up on stuff, stalled the blades on stumps and stubs, expensive to repair, needed a lot of repairs, etc.

Thanks John - That's the kind of feedback I wanted to hear. I'm probably better off using the big brush cutter I've got. It really pulverizes stuff!!

Thanks again - Dan

I made one to tow behind my tractor, 56" cut, 10HP. It absolutely trashed anything in its path, up to about 1.5" dia.
I used it for clearing small areas, it would be perfect for trails.

Looking at some of the commercially made tow behinds they look a bit flimsy and inadequate.

I have a Swisher brush cutter pulled behind my Gator for trails cleaning. Works fine only time the engine stalls is when blades dig into dirt for an extended time. Use it 1-2x season.

What the Swisher does need is a swivel mount hitch as I use mine on pond bank slopes. Took about an hour scrounging up parts to make one.

Bought it used from craigslist, tractor bush hog is 10' wide & does not fit down 5-6' wide gator trails.

Bought cheap, used little, good value for expense.

I used to have a pull behind mower for an atv or to add to a rider mower.

I bought good, and got a craftsman.

was the biggest hunk of junk I've wasted my money on in this decade...

sold it at a loss after a couple years of rebuilding carbs and whatnot....was glad to see it go.

I've had a bad experience with craftsman mowers. JUNK. I know this isn't the right thread for this but I couldn't resist.

Actually I take it back.. the biggest hunk of junk I've bought in the last decade was a i-robot roomba vacume.. the pull behind mower was the 2nd worst waste of money! ;)

Don't hold back tell us how you really feel...:D

I think I've heard about this roomba on more than this forum...;)

DR Power equipment has a new tow behind mower that has up to 17hp. From a distance it looks like it is well built, but I haven't looked at one closely. It can be towed directly behind, or offset on either side, and the engine controls are mounted where you can reach them from the driving position.

Not to change the direction of this thread, but if I had rough stuff to cut, I'd like to mount something like a DR mower on the FRONT of the FEL. I know you risk tire damage running over cut stuff, but I'd think it would be easier to cut than a non-offset tow behind unit where you drive over everthing you cut.

On most of our small tractors, it would require a separate power plant..........

Thoughts?

In the Kioti forum under CK30 cab thread there is a link to a place that sells front mounted mowers for the Kioti's. I guess that you can mount a rotary cutter on the front of some new JD's too using the new "A" frame mount.

I think this link will work:
