Looking at a used tractor with a Woods RM360 mower.

Never used such a thing (know only of bush hogs and mid-mount mower decks).

Any thoughts?

RFMs are nice because you can back them in under low hanging branches and back into blind corners. RFM is easier to get on and off. MMM are more maneuverable because they don't stick out the back and knock things over when you turn too fast. Mowers all cut lower than brush hogs, so if you're mowing pasture you want a brush hog so you can keep it mowed higher.

You might want to read an earlier discussion Rear finish mower vs MMM and there are quite a number of similar discussions if you use the Search function for "3-point vs mid-mount".

The honest answer is, I don't know. I haven't seen the unit yet. I am, in the rear mower department, a newbie. So, forgive what may sound like an extremely naive question . . . but, what is the difference?

Thank you, I'll do that.

when you wrote "pull behind" i immediately thought of a trail mower i had. it was something you could pull behind a lawn mower, atv, etc and had it's own engine. it had issues i would tell you about to push you in a different direction.

but, you probably are referring to a rear finish mower that runs off the pto of your tractor and mounts to the 3pt hitch. those are much nicer and better regarded.

I don't need something that hangs out the back I need it to stick out the side so that I can drive along side of what I'm mowing and not have to keep backing out over it.

But you still have to drag it through what you're trying to mow.
I need it suspended out over the area.
