Looking at a used tractor with a Woods RM360 mower.

Never used such a thing (know only of bush hogs and mid-mount mower decks).

Any thoughts?

RFMs are nice because you can back them in under low hanging branches and back into blind corners. RFM is easier to get on and off. MMM are more maneuverable because they don't stick out the back and knock things over when you turn too fast. Mowers all cut lower than brush hogs, so if you're mowing pasture you want a brush hog so you can keep it mowed higher.

You might want to read an earlier discussion Rear finish mower vs MMM and there are quite a number of similar discussions if you use the Search function for "3-point vs mid-mount".

The honest answer is, I don't know. I haven't seen the unit yet. I am, in the rear mower department, a newbie. So, forgive what may sound like an extremely naive question . . . but, what is the difference?

Thank you, I'll do that.

when you wrote "pull behind" i immediately thought of a trail mower i had. it was something you could pull behind a lawn mower, atv, etc and had it's own engine. it had issues i would tell you about to push you in a different direction.

but, you probably are referring to a rear finish mower that runs off the pto of your tractor and mounts to the 3pt hitch. those are much nicer and better regarded.

I don't need something that hangs out the back I need it to stick out the side so that I can drive along side of what I'm mowing and not have to keep backing out over it.

But you still have to drag it through what you're trying to mow.
I need it suspended out over the area.

From all of the suggestions given and you not liking any af the ideas (I also thought of an offset trail mower). When you say you want something "that hangs out over the edge" you can get a ditch bank mower, these are $$$. Yes they "hang out over the edge" they are controlled by hydraulics in, out, forward, back and angle of the blade box.

We have the Woods RM 600 3PH finish mower and I like it and would buy another one.

It a 72" finish mower and with so many fine tuning adjustments offered by Woods I can cut really super short which is what I've done for many years.

If you get a CUT to do a lot of dirty work which includes going into the woods I recommend getting a 3PH mower and avoid the MMM.

I can take off the 3PH mower while I hold my breath...it's that fast. Putting it back on is real easy too...that's why I'm constantly doing it during the summer, sometimes twice a day.

I'm always segueing between mowing, logging and moving clay piles so no one task becomes a boring *** project that I get attitude about doing it repeatedly.

You don't really want to go in the woods with any kind of mower but a lot of guys with MMM will do that cause they're hard to get on/off.

Also like already was mentioned with a 3ph mower it's nice to back up and mow under our dwarf orchard trees.

I don't mean to knock MMM's...they cut nice but they are hard to drop and hook up.
