My steering wheel hub and nut are pretty well rusted. I'll be removing my steering wheel soon, as well. I am soaking the center hub with PB Blaster which I have used extensively to free up other rusted stuff my M-F 231S.

After a nice, long soak, I would remove the nut and carefully tap the center shaft while putting some upward pressure on the wheel. Hope you get it off. Use care when hammering on the shaft.

Some heat may help, as well. I have a heat lamp I use for stubborn stuff like your wheel.

Once off, I'm going to fill the cracks in the wheel and spokes with epoxy, paint the wheel then sew a leather wheel cover onto the wheel.

Let us know how you fare.

a few links of chain with a bolt around each spoke , hook your puller in the chain

Loosen the nut but don't take it off all the way. Leave a few threads between the nut and the steering wheel. Stand on the floor boards and pull up on the steering wheel as hard as you can while alternating which arm pulls harder. Be aggressive. It'll come off...very suddenly. That's why you leave the nut on the shaft.

Same as above but just get someone to pull on the wheel. This time leave the nut flush with the top of the shaft. Take a brass shaft about an inch in diameter and six inches long. Place it on the top of the nut and hit the brass with a hammer as hard as you can. In about two hits it should come off. The person pulling up on the wheel should pull as hard as they can.

Have fun and good luck!

I take it that it doesn't have the threaded holes on each side of the center hole, perhaps you could get behind it with a large bearing puller,

I needed to remove the wheel from a project side by side that didn't have any puller accommodations. I used some 2 x 4s, c-clamps and all thread. The all thread has a nut and washer behind the 2 x 4 that is not visible (jpg attached I hope). Clamped it all up and then loaded up some tension (cautiously) on the rod nut, a couple whacks on the rod with a hammer then more tension. Repeat as needed until the taper released. It helps that the tension is constantly applied, yours may need some penetrating oil as previously suggested. IMG_6288.JPGIMG_6288.JPG

PB Blaster is not the best.
Use Kroil, and let it sit for up to a week, applying periodically.

I've yanked off several steering wheels. As I get older I look harder for a mechanical way to apply pulling pressure.

You've been shown a couple methods that will allow you to use mechanical force.

You can dunk your tractor in a large vat of PB Blaster or whatever your favorite is and it won't do any good.

I disagree.....and I am "older"!

I kept the nut cavity filled with Kroil for a week.
Gently used an impact wrench, hammering the nut tight, then loose, every other day.
Just a little up tap with my hands, and the wheel popped off.

Good idea!
