On a MF with a std steering wheel it can be just as good to just take a grinder an cut it, a new one dosen cost much and the old can sit really hard so its a time/cost issue.
Some tractors and assemblies get greased at the factory during assembly, the first and only time they have seen grease. It can't be an easy task. A car steering wheel is usually only a few years old and kept inside the passenger compartment. This tractor has probably been outside for almost sixty years. And probably no one thought or cared to give it a lick of grease.
