Does anyone have tips on pulling fenceposts? I have some post and rail to remove and I wanted to use my tractor to save some grunt work. I do have a loader but I'm not sure of the safest way to use it or the 3 pt. I also have some chain link posts that were backfilled with concrete that need to come out too. Will they be too much to yank without digging around them? My loader doesnt have hooks on it... yet.

First, I would get a hook or 3 welded on to the bucket.
I just pulled 60 6" PVC pipe posts from the ground using a bucket hook in the center and a 4 foot strap.
Slid out like butter with the strap wrapped around the post and the hook, curling the bucket.
I would not touch the concreted posts with the bx.

You'll need hooks on your FEL. I've got three, one in the middle and one on each side. I didn't have a welder so I bolted them up and they work so well that I'm keeping 'em that way.
This past fall I finally got rid of a PITA above ground pool that I had built a deck completely around. I had 24 4x4 posts planted in concrete surrounding the pool that had to come up before I could disassemble the pool.
I wraped a chain around each post down at the bottom and hooked it to my center and one side hook. I then just rolled back and lifted the FEL and it lifted each post out like it was in butter. I then carried 'em down to the burn pile one by one, a most enjoyable seat time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Chain/rope hooks on your FEL gives it much more capabilities and usefulness.

If you pull with the FEL, suggest you attached to a center hook or equally spaced on two hooks.
If the posts are tight, you can strain your FEL by pulling on one side. It might even try to tip the bota over!

Whatever you do, don't use the cable over the rear tire trick. I remember reading a tragic story of a 14-year old boy killed while working with his grandfather doing this. It's in the safety section of TBN somewhere.

I pulled up some old wood fence posts with my BX using a center hook on the bucket and a chain. I had to rock the tractor back and forth on some of them to loosen the posts. Generally I would push on the post when I drove up to them before hooking the chain up just to loosen them.

I notice several mention hooks welded onto bucket. I just use my tooth bar to wrap the chain and that allows me to have 5 locations to use for attaching.
Yep, I know the hooks would be easier to hook on to but I just hook the chain onto itself and make a loop. Has been working without problem.

Well, maybe this tip does not belong here - but I pulled a lot of fence posts with Hi Lift jack. Works like a charm, takes some muscles - but it makes the dinner taste better /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Before my B7510 I had a chinese tractor and I pulled up 400 feet of post and rail using the 3 point hitch, a cross bar, and a chain. Worked like a charm, popped a few wheelies, and I wouldn't hesitate to use the 3 point again before using my loader. Just have to get on and off the tractor two or three times to reposition the chain. Really pulls the posts out quick!
I have heard that a high lift jack works well also.....for the poor souls that don't own a tractor.
