pulling force of a B2920

As I read about losing strength when tying a knot I was wondering - how do you guys attach ropes to the tree to be pulled.

I spent some time watching a phone company tree trimmer remove some trees. Their guide/fall incentive rope was put over a limb about 15-20 feet high, next to the trunk, using a pole. The rope was pulled down, using the pole, to about ground level. Either in the process of pulling it down or afterwards, depending on the tree, the rope was spirally wrapped around the trunk 5-6 times, then the end tucked under a wrap. No knots were used.

I tie about a 12 inch diameter bowline that surrounds the main pull rope. Then slide it up to the level where it wrapped around the main tree....about twenty-twentyfive feet high is usually about as far up the trunk that I can manuever it using poles or a 1 lb sand bag attached to a throw line. Working by myself, but in no hurry, this works for me. I want to have everything just right for the final cut. Because, if one screws up, it is dangerous to try and redo the rope and fall in a hung up tree. Using the truck or the tractor, I tension the line....cut as far as seems enough and then finish the fall while far enough away while pulling with the truck or tractor with the tow line attached to the tow hooks on the front. Probably done 40 pine trees that were around 40-50 feet high. Cheers, Mike
