I got home early today and I pulled out the T Post Puller. The last time I used it was in June or July, when I made some changes to the dogs runs. It was horrible, I could barely get them out, and I was climbing onto the handle and bouncing just to get them to budge.

We got an inch of rain last week and the ground feels "softer" I popped about a dozen T posts out of the ground really fast. Probably took 25 minutes to get them out. Then I hit one that just refused to come out, I went to the next, and it isn't budging either. I tried the third with the same results, so I just left the puller sitting there and called it a day.

We're expecting more rain this week, and I think that's what's going to make the difference. I'll wait until it rains and try again. I'm in no rush.

You can see the new fence to the left. The old fence was used for the electric wire when I first got the horses. It kind of worked OK, but not great. It zapped them just fine, but the plastic things to hold the wire where always breaking. It was a constant search for broken plastic thingy's, and replacing them. The new fence is 2x4 horse fence.

I'm trying to avoid the getting on and off of the tractor to connect something to each T post, then do it all over again for the next T post. Ideally, I wanted to remain in the seat and pull them all out. Now that the ground is getting softer, I'm gonna stick with the manual T post puller. In the world of less work, this seems to be the winner.

Congratulations on the rain and the T-post success!

This is my issue with that gizmo. Here, mostly by the time the ground is soft enough to use it, the soil is usually unsafe (too slippery).

As an aside, when we first put up electric fence, we used some Zareba brand yellow insulators that were um...less than optimal. We switched to Gallagher and Premier1 insulators, and the Gallagher top caps have been 90% good for 15 years of Californian sun and snow (mostly one of the two top ears snap off, often from a branch hitting them). The T-post standoffs are going ok. They seem mostly to die by impact with a branch. The flat plate versions that go between the bumps/knuckles on the T-posts are close to 99% survival here.

All the best,

Peter

I use my GF as the one that connects the chain to the T post. I stay on the tractor.
I guess you need a GF to help you !
He already said the hydraulic tree puller was too expensive. And it's way cheaper than a girlfriend.

If you want to remain on the tractor, use your grapple and see post #23.
If you don't have a grapple, get one and then see post #23.

I think if I had a lot of T posts to pull I'd remove my loader bucket and fabricate something simple arm to arm. Maybe section of telephone pole, small I beam, something pretty substantial then in the middle a loop of chain. Simply loop T post then angle arms so it's tight & pull up. Then angle back where post falls where you want it. Someone mentioned pipe...a 5" long piece of 2" pipe would work instead of chain.

😂 😂 My GF has a great job ! She's self supporting !
One just has to find the right GF. I'm not going to support one, and I don't expect her to support me.
That's how we roll !

Good luck finding a GF whose idea of a mutual good time is fence work or is that the way to screen out the bad ones?
