Had to pull my friends well pump today. He came up with this roller and put it together on my tractor.

It's a war surplus cable reel clamped to bucket forks. Works perfectly for pulling pumps with poly pipe.

Nice setup for such a task. A+ for creativity.

How many feet did you pull up? I have set two wells, one @180, the other(mine) @ 240. I pulled one that was @140, did by hand with a helper & if there had not been a tree there to loan us it's branch to tie off on we might have dropped it back in the hole....darn things get heavy. I put a SS cable on mine so when the day comes it might be a bit easier.

Both of mine are in the 180' to 210' range . Both are poly pipe but both have non-moveable sheds around them , thus when it is required , it is hand over hand which Thankfully I have placed quite a few of the plastic guides on the pipe thus can take a break every 30' to 40' feet . Does not help either that I don't have a way to get a straight pull away from either well . Both require a second person to take well cap out of shed's then turn a gradual 90 degrees to lay down pipe .

Great Idea for a not so fun project .

The pump is set at about 220' with a water level of about 186'. Problem is the well is filling gradually with fine sand and it's beginning to get picked up by the pump.

We're going to pull it again and drop an old pump down in with a garden hose tied alongside. The garden hose will be hooked to pressure from another source and act as a jet to stir up the soup at the bottom. The pump will be lowered right into this soup to pump it out to the surface. A piece of poly pipe from the pump discharge will be open at the top to discharge the goop. I'm hoping this will work and clear the well down to about 300' or so. Have any of you guys done this?

My well is 200', pump is at 190. Water vein is between 95-110'. Well driller gave me some extra storage space at my expense. Initially 2-3 gallons per minute when tested. We hydrofractured the well and this is how we found the vein . The drill clogged the sides while drilling. When the bag filled with water and the compressor back flushed it opened the veins for better flowage. We improved to to 6-7 gallons per minute capacity. With the extra depth we have never pumped it dry. I installed the pump with poly pipe. Removal is a task but I have done it alone several times. Just remember to take a break for a few minutes and keep it moving constantly. I pull it in the winter so the pipe doesn't get full of debris. I knew the snow would be good for something.

That is a great idea raspy! Been on my property near 30 yrs and had to replace pumps twice. Had several times where the wire broke from torque or rubbed raw against the pipe. I always called a plumbing company, after I pulled by hand once and learned my lesson, who charges by the foot to pull out the pipe with a 3 wheeled - looks like baseball pitching machine. 365' well - gets way expensive way fast. :mur:
Now my mind is racing - I have old car/truck & motorcycle wheels just laying around - I bet I, or anyone, can do the same thing with. I don't have bucket forks but I can make an a-frame, or tripod from 4X4's and hang the wheel for the same desired result if the need ever arises.
Thanks very much for your post and the pics. You caused my tired old brain to jump in gear again. :cool2:

That should work, but I also read that sticking a air pressure hose down to the bottom along with a open hose/pipe and blasting it with high pressure air breaks up the sediment and pushes it back up the hose or pipe. I have never tired it, but it sounds like it would work.
