Hello,

I just found this forum and its looks like a great resource. I'm looking for an attachment to condition a mile long track for horses to ride on. The footing right now is loamy clay which is fine in spring but gets hard as a rock in summer. There isn't many large rocks or anything, mostly sand and a few small pebbles. The difficult part is that I only want to get about an inch of loose soil, just enough to soften it up.

I've been looking at pictures of pulverizers and it looks like on most of them the shanks could be adjustable (if you drilled out a new hole or cut a new groove) but if anyone that has one could chime in, that would be great! Also, any brand recommendations would be great! Do I need a double roller since I want the finest clod size possible?

Also, if you can think of any other attachment that would do the job better, I'm open to anything! Tractor is a JD 1070 4x4!

Thank you for your time!
Tony

I recently bought a used Land Pride Powered Rake. I've only got about an hour on it now, but it will do exactly what you are looking for. I recently dug out 5 tree stumps that left 4 to 5 foot round craters in my front yard. In an hour I had the yard level with loose soil on top for planting new grass.

A powered rake will loosen your soil 1 inch deep in no time flat. No clumps at all. Of course, these things ain't cheap !!!

most 3pt tillers can be set for 1".... I know mine will and used it extensively to till before putting down grass seed.
