I have seen a unit with a hydraulic scarifier bar. I'll think on it - might be able to remember.

However - scootr's use of the water filled 55 gallon drum - brilliant. A whole lot easier and simpler than my 400 pound cast concrete weight.

Has anyone heard of or have experience with Sharq Blades? They appear to be a simple addition to a regular blade but have a hard wear surface edge that by design, is always sharp. This would be an interesting addition to a land plane.

I'm looking for a HEAVY duty land plane. Several years ago, I purchased the largest version EA had, and it was great. I sold that farm a few years ago along with all implements. I just purchased a new farm, and along with the massive sticker shock of equipment these days, I was equally unprepared to find that EA was defunct. I would have ordered another land plane immediately, as the last was great.

Now, I'm looking and having a tough time finding anything that looks big/heavy enough to be worthwhile. I have a JD 6120M, so no slouch of a tractor, so want something that will handle the tractor, even though I only plan on using it for gravel road and some smoothing in the pastures.

Anyone have a good heavy alternative for an 84-96" landplane? I'd prefer one with scarifier shanks as well, if possible.

I'm also looking for a heavy box blade and Root Grapple. I purchased a Construction Attachments Grapple (sold it) before that was great. I can get it again at least... with an almost $6K dent in my wallet.

Basically, most of the things I see are for 'lighter' tractors. I'm looking for some heavier things. A good alternative on box blade and grapple for 6120M 620R loader, would be appreciated.

Woods calls their land planes "Grader Scrapers". I have a Woods GSM84P. It has scarifiers. Very heavy unit from a major brand. Weighs about 750# as I recall. Can't move it around by hand at all and it will bog down a pretty big tractor if you load it up. I've never had the need to drop the teeth or add any weight.

In my determination - EA was never in the picture. I only buy local. They are out of my picture because I won't spend that much money without first laying hands on the implement.

It certainly isn't shipping costs. Local or afar - you will pay something for shipping.

Also - in my estimation there were superior implements made by others.

So......bottom line. Loss of EA is no great loss in my world.

Here are some LS units tells spec's weight size if too light you can always add weight. I have 6 ft works gread and I
don't need the diggers

From experience with my Land Pride - land plane grading scraper. If you get a unit that is heavy enough to do the job - you won't need any type of auxiliary "sharp" blade.

My mile long gravel driveway has a surface that is - gravel, sand, silt and volcanic ash( Mt St Helens - 1980). This mix dries out and becomes as hard as thirty year old concrete - in the summer.

My LPGS @ 800 pounds has always been heavy enough to cut this driveway "crust". I DO use the scarifiers when dealing with pot holes, speed riffles, wash outs, etc. Cuts clear to the bottom - so repairs have something to grip onto.

I definitely remember the unit I saw with the hydraulic scarifier bar was something like that SPIKE. I also remember - based upon the way you wanted it configured - $15K to $18K.

While I would never consider EA after how they done people, Ted is back in business. He now is not taking payment until an implement ships though.

With that said, I like Homestead Implements. Also, Catawba seems to have some well made stuff, and appears to be a KO of EA.

I kind of agree but both implements have different strong points. The Gannon box has a single blade and is made to carry material. It's best use is cut and fill work. The landplane has much longer sideboards housing 2 opposing blades. The open design does not carry material. Its job is to lift and deposit material in nearly the same spot. The longer sideboards keep it from reacting to every little dip so it can over time help flatten a road surface. With all dirt work moisture content is critical to the results. After 25 yrs of dragging our gravel/DG/recycled material road I will now only hit it after a rain.

You make good points - scootr. I hold off until it rains. Rain softens the surface and makes any repairs easier. Damp dirt will compact and - usually - stay where you put it.

When dry - any road repairs are not as likely to hold.
