how are pumps rated i want a 10 gpm pump and want to drive it from a diesel rated at 2200 should i buy a pump rated at 10 gpm maxed or a pump rated at 10 gpm at 2000 rpm

if 10 gpm is what you need, buy a pump that can provide that flow at your desired rpm, 2000 rpm. that could be a 15 gpm/3000rpm pump....
I prefer to know the pump displacement, cui per rev, and maximum speed (rpm).
This gpm rating from the dealers is confusing if they do not provide the rpm for the rated flow....

You must factor in the maximum pressure and the HP required, + the inside diameter of the lines at the given flow rate. If the lines are restricted there will be excessive heat due to pumping losses.
