Does anyone know what RPM a pto pump on a mason dump runs at? I'm looking to scavage a pump from an old dump and use it on a trailer I'm building. I'd like to power it with a gas engine or DC motor (I want the trailer for both my truck and tractor) Any suggestions?...Scozz

looked at the wacker website for you but had no luck with that detailed of info, though the only current model used a 13hp gas. Would an old snow plow pump work?

I think most PTO pumps are rated at 1200 to 1800 RPM. The Macks at work and my Ford Dump all have 1200 on the pto pumps. Here the old car haulers used to take a starter and take off the nose cone and use a lovejoy coupler to mount the pump to the starter. Ive seen many a 9 car trailers done this way with a button to push and you pull the valave for that function and held the button down. It works good and pretty good on dump beds to. You probably can get a few starters for 10 bucks each.

i agree, most i have seen the large trucks go from about 1200-1500, and the small ones go about 1000-1500. my 1 ton mason dump flies at 1000 rpm, so i dont go over that. my triaxle usually sees about 1400 all day long.

check with local truck body builders, they would be able to tell you the gear ratios they use for certain pumps. the above numbers are engine rpm, not pto pump rpm. there is gear reductions involved, and for that i dont have any info.

you could always call the pump manufacturer and they will be able to tell you the input rpm for sure. good luck!

Scozz itt a very simple idea that I hadnt thought of till an old time car hauler told me. You just have a switch at that set of valve ad when the power is needed just push the button and pull back. Ive seen a few wheel lifts and other things built like that with the starter motor idea. Very inexpensive to.

Taylortractornut, If you take the nosecone off the starter how do you keep the armature aligned in the starter case so it won't hit the sides while running? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A mason dump must be local term, I thought you meant a power buggie which also use hydraulics.

Yeah, how would you keep the starter's axis stable? Havent looked at one in a while, is their another bearing in the middle?

A "mason dump" is just a small dump truck ... typically used by masons hence the name .. pretty common terminology here in NY ... never considered it to be localized! .. Scozz
