Pump water above ground without freezing

A friend told me to run parallel pipes when I ran lines to my new drive shed. Use a small circulating pump with a thermostat. The heat from traveling underground will prevent above ground portions from freezing. This was so I could use a wash bay in the winter. The circulating pump should be protected from frost. Mine is in an underground pump house.
