I have one of those pull behind electric (12volt) pump sprayers.

I had to replace the pump a year and a half ago, and now it needs another one!

I think it is a (Femco), but I will have to go back out and check.

It really is not used all that much, so I think the motor should last a lot longer.

I was wondering if any body has any ideas on making (or has made) something that would be powered by the Power trac hydraulics?

Mostly I use it to spray the weeds and grass growing up in the gravel drive and along some fence lines.

The drive is about 1300 ft. long.

Thanks in advance for in ideas or suggestions.

Abe.

PS. Is there a stronger, bigger, longer lasting pump that goes on these pull behind sprayers?

I am in the same boat in needing a sprayer. Fimco had to re-design their motors this year as the burn out rate was so high. Have not heard what the results are on that.

I know there are some high end electric sprayers. Out of my price range. Also, you can get a PTO powered sprayer. I am working on a PTO adapter so I can run a chipper. There are some really cool 3 point hydraulic PTO adapters for skid steers, but they are $2K just to get into... Ouch...

You could use hydraulics, but that would be quite a job.

One thing that I have seen and thought was a good idea was using and I/C engine that are availible relatively cheaply. You could attatch the pump to it with a belt.

You may also be able to by a small I/C Engine Water Pump and make your swap this for your current pump.

Maybe something like this

Just some ideas.

I have two Fimco sprayers; a 15 gal spot spray and a 25 gal with 12' boom. The 15 gal came with 1gpm sealed pump/motor which I replaced after it seized. The store I bought the sprayer from sells a replacement pump/motor but wanted $10 less than a complete 15 gal sprayer. I ended up buying a new Shurflo 1gpm off ebay for less than half what the store was asking. The replacement one is physically larger and has worked well.

The 25 gal sprayer has a rebuildable pump. I had to put a kit in due to leaks. When I took it apart I discovered a rubber gasket that was pinched when it was originally assembled. Pump works much better now. Also, this sprayer came with a screen that is basically a garden hose washer will metal mesh in the center. I removed that and installed a Banjo filter. Works very well now.

Abe,

If you want a drop in replacement, I'd recommend ShurFlo, or Little Giant. Both run forever. (I had to replace a little giant that had run basically continuously for 14 years. Talk about energizer bunny performance.)

Northern tool tends to have a selection of brand X pumps, if you would like to go cheaper.

I'd pass on the IC for what you are doing; I bet that you don't the horsepower or hassle.

All the best,

Peter

I have a number of 12V pump systems with FloJet pumps that I use mainly for quick response fire potection. I have only lost one due to freezing in over 6 years. I use a 4300 series quad pump from Northern for about $100, but they have a number of FloJet and Sureflow that are less $$ and would work fine for replacement. Freezing will kill any of them.
