Pumping a lot of water from basement sump what to do with it? Irrigation?

In a previous house, I was on a hill with a walkout basement. I tied in a 4" line to the outside drain tile by the walkout and ran it down the hill. The sump pump still ran, but the outside pipe was lower so I wasn't too worried about the pump going out.

My current house they seem to have built it in a hole at the bottom of a hill, so my sump pump runs like yours. Unfortunately I have no choice but to pump it to the ditch by the road. I never considered saving the water.

They make poly septic tanks now, about $1600. 1500 gallons is a lot of water. you could burry it and run a small well pump for your irrigation. The koi pond maybe cheaper and nicer to look at.

Varying sizes of poly tanks are ALWAY available used at great prices. Burying it below frost level would make a great FIRE reserve as well.

So, we pump a crazy amount of water out of the sump in our basement. Calculations during normal times figure to be around 25k gallons per day. Thanks,Darren

WOW, over 17 gallons per minute from a sump pump. What size pump do you have 3" or 4". I have only seen a few basement sump pumps but most were 1" inlet with 3/4 or 1" outlet and wouldn't pump nearly that amount of water. Perhaps you meant 2500 gallons per day.

It must be a heck of an industrial pump because it’s probably not running continuous.

You have a serious water problem, to say the least.

You're pumping 25K gallons per day / 24 hours / 60 minutes = 17.36 gallons per minute.

How many HP is that pump? YIKES!

To put 25K gallons in perspective, I have a 24' above ground swimming pool and it holds 12,500 gallons of water. So you're talking about filling two 24' above ground swimming pools every day with that sump pump?

It takes me about 17 hours to fill my pool from our 4" well pumping about 12 gallons per minute total through three hoses on it so that the pump doesn't cycle off and on.

If you are pumping that much from the basement every day, I sure wouldn't pump it out to the yard(again). I would be coming up with a way to get it FAR away from your house.

My thoughts also, i would be trying to eliminate that much water from coming in to begin with.

2500. I wish. It’s been a long while since I ran the numbers. I’ll run them again. Yes. It’s a big issue. Not a finished basement. Never any water in the basement tho. Except, Only had it flood three times in 14 years. 1 was a pump failure. They should have never built here with a basement.

17GPM isn't that much.
Here is a 3/10ths HP pump that is rated for 3150GPH, they also have a 1/2HP model that is rated for 5100GPH: Everbilt 3/1 HP Cast Iron Sump Pump-HDS3 - The Home Depot

I looked up that area on topographic maps and it looks like there is vast flat low areas. Do you have a Large area that is lower than you so you could pump it there? That is a serious problem you have.
