Its best to get a pooper scooper and pick up the droppings. I have a plastic garbage barrel at the edge of the lawn that I put them in. When it is half full, I empty into a hole that I dig in the woods. Cover and forget. With 2 dogs, it can add up quickly and you are bound to step into a land mine if you don't clean up after them. A covered plastic garbage can is nicer looking than a lawn peppered with poop.:D
Boy i hope your using them hefty garbage bags!! I wouldnt want to be around when one breaks:D :D

sorry that i didnt mention our "snickers" breed - he is a Goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever / poodle mix..

thanks for all the great information.. I am seriously thinking of trying the bells to go outside routine.. I bet Snicker can catch on to that pretty fast..

thanks

Nope..... I don't use any bags at all. I have two plastic 35 gallon garbage pails that I use. When one is about half full, which takes the better part of 5 or 6 months, I take it up to the dumping area and dump it into the hole. Cover it over and leave the garbage pail up there for the rain to wash. I will dump the rain water out about once a month. I then take the rain water cleaned pail down to the driveway and start using that. I don't care for the smell when I dump it, but it isn't something that is going to kill me. After I am done, I take a shower and throw the dirty clothes into the washing machine. It isn't much different than the guy that comes to empty our septic system. He uses gloves.... I use gloves. If you are the type of person that is afraid to get dirty, then I guess that this job isn't for you. In fact, if you do it properly, you don't get dirty at all. If you leave the dogs feces on the ground, the flies will lay there eggs on it. There are other considerations also that I prefer not to go into. Don't ask.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things - I cant imagine not having a cage to house train a puppy these days - so much easier IMO with a cage...

Another trick when they are wimpering in the cage at night and should be asleep, is to throw over a blanket that covers the cage. Its like putting a bird to sleep - quites them right up, and they like it and sleep longer with it..

good luck and post pictures

Do you mean kinda like this picture?:D And can you see the dog - she was still in bed when I snapped this picture, but had her eyes open. Chihuahuas have what to me is an unusual trait. They don't want to sleep "ON" a quilt or blanket, but want to burrow "INTO" one. She's usually completely out of sight when she's asleep.

Our dogs are the same way. They think that the guest room bed is for them. All you have to do is look for the lump under the covers. :D

Thats a great picture !! it dos look like she was swallowed by the blanket !!

I think it works great when the whole cage is covered - calms them down and they sleep good
