Cub Cadet LTX1045 - Kubota BX25D
Thanks for the help with pricing per this thread: here

I went to the dealer and looked at the bx25d they had in. I was fine on the price, but I am now concerned about the rust on the tractor. It had only 1.6hrs, but looked like it was 5yrs old. Sure some of it was just dirt, but under the hood the exhaust manifold and muffler were very rusty. I know those will rust up anyway, but just a little shocking that this is supposed to be a new tractor. Pretty much ever where i looked there was a tiny bit of rust. ROPS, pins, controls all had rust. He transferred it from another dealership, so I imagine he didn't know the condition either. He didn't bring it in for me and I don't have any commitment on paper. Just emails back and forth and today's visit.

The dealer, was a super nice guy, and I really would like to work with him. He said the 2015s are coming in, but he was unsure of a date and price difference. I am thinking about just living with the rust and maybe asking for a discount to ease my mind. Just unsure of what would be a fair discount. I really wish I had my phone with me, so I could have snapped some pics for the group, but I left it in the car.

So questions for you experts, when do the 2015 bx25d tractors come in? will they be a higher price?
What's a fair discount to ask for the rusty condition of the machine? He said they would clean it the best they can. Not sure to what extent...I doubt they would be sanding/repainting. I understand without pictures it'd be hard to visualize, but less that the post mentioned below. Looks like they used it as a sample tractor to show potential buyers the machine.

I have read this, and several other forum topics... I don't mind doing a little cleanup and doing what I can to prevent any further rust... I know it's a tractor and it's going to get some scratches/rust/dents/ not afraid of that. Just a little disappointed it isn't really new, so I can try to keep it in good shape.

thanks for your thoughts!

When I was in an effort to buy a pickup truck a few years ago . . I was astonished at how differently the same age and model in a new truck drove and looked individually.

I was stunned at the difference in "aging" for brand new matching product. Rust on the frames and undercarriage etc..

Some of them were so suspucious and bad that no level of discount would have made me content because once rust forms on new units . . . you know something other than rain . . Is the culprit.

I met many fine dealers and travelled many miles to see the opportunities. My motto was and is . . . "get what you can afford and get what gives you peace after the ownership starts . . because there is always another one to consider".

You "get by" with buying decisions on scratch and dent or not my brand on things that are 1 day to a few months in use. I just don't want 10 year lifetime products that forever nag my decisions or shorten their useful life.

I'd suggest . . to get what you need, what you can afford, AND what you want. Find a way to accomplish all 3 and you won't have regrets. Does it take more effort or time . . maybe . . but big ticket purchases have "contentment" responsibilities.

Just my viewpoint.

Thanks for your words of wisdom, very good advice.
I think if I gave this tractor a little TLC it'd be alright and I would be happy with it. Just a little disappointed in the condition.

I honestly don't know if I should be looking for anything else. He started it and it started right up. Little puff of black smoke, but seemed like it ran fine. Is there anything I should be checking to see if it hasn't been abused during it's short 1.6hr life...

thanks,

Here we go again! were the roads wet swith salt while they trucked it by any chance? :D
Tractors will get weathered sitting outside and if a buyer puts the tractor under cover
that will be the extent of it. if it sits out it's whole life, it will be fairly obvious as time
goes on.
ask the dealer to do their best to clean it up, touch up rusted painted areas and re-evaluate
after you get a chance to look at it.

Thanks Dutch,

I see that this is a reoccurring theme, on this forum about rust issues on all brands. I just didn't know how to proceed. I think I will do as you ask, ask him to clean up and re-evaluate. What kind of discount would you ask for because of rust issues?

thanks for the opinion, I will ask him...

Well the dealer got back to me. Couldn't come down in price at all, so that makes it easy. Only thing is he says the 2015 will be $500 more. So now I got to revisit the issue of the dealers again. Talk with Barlows... Disappointing because I was hoping to me using it soon. I got a lot of little projects I need to get started on. Barlows was 2 tp 3 weeks out. I was willing to go with the local guy because he would be faster.

I am impatient... :D

Thanks for all the input and I will keep you posted as I really value everyone's input!

Its early april and if it would be 2 to 3 weeks out it would be just may 1. If you're impatient spend your time figuring how and what you will do on each of those projects when the tractor gets there. Why??? So you do the smart thing and not make a poor decision to hurry and take a unit you don't want. Let Barlow's get you what you want and deserve.

If you wait and get a 2015 model in about a month if it gets wet it will have rust on it

The one I was going to pick up today :banghead: was received by the dealership on 10/30/2014. I actually tried it out, in January. When I last saw it, it had 2.x hours on it. It had some rust, on the ROPS, that looked like something had scratched it. The dealer was going to sand it down and repaint it, free. I did notice some of the welds had a lot of splatter, mostly on the ROPS, but it's a tractor, not a show car.

What's different about the 2015 made models?

Go get it yourself and you can probably have it today if you can make it to Somerset by noon. Or wait till Monday. No trailer? Barlows also sells trailers.:)
Doubt there will be anything significantly different between the "2014" and "2015" model. These are tractors not cars/trucks that change with the model year. The $500 will be the biggest difference. Sure they keep making tractors non stop, like yesterday and then Monday and there will be no difference except the one made yesterday may some where in an obscure location some paper will say it was a 2014 year but I even doubt that. I believe what happens is the day the price increase is implemented they will then let dealers use the 2015 story to justify the price increase. Tractors being made since Jan 1st will have a build date of 2015 but it will be in the fine print.
Kubota changes series numbers. I started with a BX2200, had a BX1500 and later had a BX2350 then a BX2660 and a year or two ago they changed the designation to BXxx70. The next change with any significant change to the tractor will be a BXxx80 or BXxx90 series so 2014 or 2015 means nothing or near nothing in the Kubota tractor world except for a few buyers that don't understand, thinking they are like cars.
Tell them to clean it up and then decide and if they do a half as.ed job or no real attempt to "fix" anything to convince you then they'll never please you so move on. They should give you some off just to make you happy but not a significant amount or at least first 50 hour full service free.
