An ATV won't hold its value as well as a tractor. If you don't overspend and take care of it, a good tractor will retain much of its value. For me, the issue may be how much of a tractor is really needed on 5 acres? If the only use is plowing snow, it seems a little overkill to buy a tractor. For that kind of use, consider an older International Cub Cadet, Gravely, John Deere, etc, garden tractor with a snow blade and some tire chains. Or maybe you can find a snow blade for your existing lawn equipment. Snow season is not a buyer's market. I remember seeing a truck mounted snow plow sell for about $100 at auction last Fall when it was hot and nobody was thinking about snow.
