Purchasing a BX1500

Congratulations on your pending retirement and thanks for giving us and your country the best years of your life.

Unless I read this wrong, I don't know where you live, but you want to buy it now, use it for a short time and then ship or trailer it to Florida in the future. You may be able to buy it cheaper where you are now than in Florida, but how much will it cost to ship a one ton tractor?

I agree they don't get any cheaper, but there may be some decent used ones close to where you really ultimately want to use it. Besides, if you don't currently have the property in Florida, how can you tell just what it is you will need size and power wise to clear or maintain it. The BX could be perfect or it could be too small for what you really need it for. Also, you could end up next to a John Deere dealer or New Holland dealer and miles from a Kubota dealer.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Surfran,
Thanks for the picture. I have an almost identical trailer to yours (tool box on the front also). I think the only diff is mine is exactly 64" wide as measured on the wooden floor. So yours is a little wider. I really like the idea of being able to trailer the tractor myself. Your picture helped confirm this for me. Thanks again.

Rick,

You've probably bought already. Have you? Tell us what you got, if so.

In case you haven't, I was thinking about buying a BX1500. Found out my cabinet maker just bought a BX2200. He said he was considering the BX1500 but found out they have a strange balancing system for the 2 cylinder diesel. So, he went with the BX2200 with a belly mower. Says it's only about $1,000 more that the 1500, which is about $7,600 bare tractor here in Va.

Based on what he said and after reading the Kubota posts, I've about decided on a BX1800. Some folks with the BX2200 have had trouble with theirs running warm, not overheating, just on the high side of normal. Figured the lower hp in basically the same block would be better.

I currently have a 12 hp Gravely, which has enough hp for anything I want but just doesn't have the grip to tow stuff up my 30% hill out back with anything in my cart. The FEL would also be handy on the Kubota to augment what the Gravely does.

Of course, I have been known to miss the point of conversation from time to time but I honestly don't remember any discussion about BX2200's running hot except when the radiator filter screen was blocked and needed cleaning. The BX1800 uses the same filtering system and would be just as subject to this issue.

You are correct about the block being the same, btw. At least according to my WSM.
