Has anybody done this? It is almost the same tractor as the 5310 except for the turbo. The only problems I can find might be the pump fuel flow whould have to be recalubrated and another problem is on the non-turbo (5210) the upper rod pin is not as big as on the turboed (5310). (40mm compared to 34mm if I remember correctly) The pistons are the same except for the pin size. Any feedback, ideals or experiences appreciated.

Well, I have not put a turbo on a non turbo-ed engine. But I have talked about it to a friend who was a former JD dealer shop manager.

Some turboed engines have an oil spray that shoots under the piston for cooling. I suppose it depends how much boost you want to add. Off the top of my head, how much HP difference is there between the 5210 and 5310. If I recall my discussions, he said that the timing of the injection pump would have to be adjusted to compensate for the turbo.

Have you just tried turning up the pump? I imagine that this tractor is not under warantee.... I know of many who just turn up the pump on their diesels to get more power.....

There was a site somewhere, can't recall, that talked about how to put a turbo on ANY engine. Even if there was no turbo made for it specifically. It showed a general plan on how the turbo was plumbed and the required equipment......

The pump would definately need to be recalibrated to get any significant power gain. The turbo alone would pack more air into the cylinder, but it needs extra fuel to produce power. I have never done this to a 5210, but I have added turbos to 3010's , 3020's , 4010"s and 4020's. I usually send the pump to a repair station and have them set the fuel delivery up 10-15%. As far as the wrist pin diameter difference, that could be a concern since deere increased the pin size for turbo engines. You could get into reliability problems. I am not sure if they are still in business, but M&W Turbo used to have kits to install aftermarket turbos.
