Hi,
When pouring diesel fuel into the tractor (my first diesel engine ever) I have to pour veerrrryyy slow or it foams up and over. I'm using typical 6 gal yellow fuel can with a plastic funnel. I think even with a larger diameter funnel I'd still have the problem as it seems like it's taking a long time to get past that "drop in plastic filter". The plastic filter is spotless clean.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something inherent with diesel fuel?

i have the same problem with the fuel not passing through the lousy screen on my 4110. i know its most likely a bad idea, but i take it out when i refuel to save time and spillage. if there is stuff blowing around in the air while i am fueling, i would leave it in of course! :)

I also remove the plastic screen filter from the tank when refilling. The fuel I buy is pretty clean and filtered already.

I haven't had the problem on my 2810HST but my can is one of those self-venting ones and most likely pours slower.

I'm with shvl73, the jug i use is a cheapo with the 1/2" tube that pulls out of the cap assembly with a small vent. The strainer takes the fuel as fast as it pours. I don't take the strainer out unless I fill it at a station.

Guess that slow pouring cheapo that requires me to stand on the tailgate to keep from cramping my arm does have one redeeming point after all.

Same thing on my 4110, I take the strainer out to fuel. You must also cock your funnel slightly to allow the air to escape the fuel tank - this way you can pour as fast as your jug will go. I keep my jugs clean, my funnel clean, and then you've got a sediment bowl to catch the big stuff that does make it into the system and then the filter - the worst you could do is have to change your filter more often if you let debris in while fueling. I've changed my filter 1 time in 1200 hours with my fueling procedure with nary a problem !!

my 4110 fills fairly easy till the last gal then it goes slowly same as when i had a 2810 at least the end of the can is lighter j

I had the same problem at first, but I found that if you lift the screen up a little and tip it sideways a little to let air in around it, it flows fine. Go figure.

Thanks for the tips. It's my first experience with diesel and I've read some horror stories about dirty fuel, mostly in the boating world. Gunk growing in the tank....

I'll try tipping the screen and if that doesn't work I'll just pull it out when filling (unless it's very dusty conditions). As skipmarcy noted, there is a bowl and filter that it all passes through.
