putting in plug for welder

Even if the welder draws 22-amps, which is lower than your water heater's 30-amp circuit capacity; there may be an inrush of current when you strike an arc that exceeds the circuit capacity just long enough to cause a problem.

Are their an electrical and/or welding experts reading this post that can verify my supposition?

There is no inrush of current when striking the arc, as far as I know. You can run a welder that draws 30 amps on a 30 amp curcuit, so if there is any inrush, it is too short to do anything.

i think they call that a surge... is that expert enough?:D

i would guess that one of those old lincoln bullets would draw an enormous amount of current when it started up because of the energy required to get that great big dc generator spinning, but these new wire feeders and inverters would be a different story altogether. just guessing though.

When I initially set mine up I used a dryer plug.
