I wanted to put my garden into rows, so this what I built.

It has a 10' tool bar with quick hitch connections cut with my plasma torch. I put three sections of a hipper that came from a junk yard. With a Speeco hitch on my tractor it is very fast to connect.

It turns a 3000 sq ft garden into perfect rows in short order.

There are junk yards for tractor implements. For a smaller tractor, you just make fewer rows. Often the dealer will sell you only the parts you need, cheap.

Right, would like some pics.

Looks like this rig makes hills and valleys in "rows".

Lucky guy...here in Potato country we have nothing of the sort...I've seen pics online of those hippers and they appear to do a great job...definetly wish I could get my hands on 2 gangs, but shipping from the south to Maine kinda takes the $$ savings out :(
I'm currently in the "materials acquiring phase" of my garden row maker..

NICE!!!!

Do you mind a copy-cat?

So do you plant on the ridges or in the valleys?

Why is this necessary?

Ridges, to allow for cultivation and to channel water for irrigation while allowing the plants to not be standing in water too long.

I like that, do you run that after you till? I made a row marker that bolts to the flap of my tiller but nothing yet that would create the raised beds that I imagine that does.

I pump water from the river, which fills the valleys and soaks into the roots from the sides. I'll dam up the ends of the rows, so the whole garden floods.

The soil on the Colorado river bank here has lost of soil that drains fast, almost too fast. The good part is that I can disk it up very nicely in about 20 minutes with a 14' disk.

I'll get pics.

Here are some pics of the rows. After I finish I appreciate how straight a real farmer makes his rows and realize how much mine could be. As noted, the PVC irrigation system fills the avlleys with water.

In the photos the pump had only run a few minutes. After a while the rows become almost full of water.

I've seen fields done that way and always wondered how they did it. Very nice job.:thumbsup:

Awesome job, JRP. I built a single row hiller using discs, but yours is double-good.;) Those plants will develop good deep root systems with the water in the furrows. If you can keep the weeds down and the veggie eatin' bugs and critters away, you'll have a terrific garden. Great job! Thanks for posting.
