Forgeddaboutit. Resistance is futile. The Formosan termites will make it to Fla. in no time if they're not already there. Formosan termites don't rely on soil or moisture. They simply jump on your house and start eating. Unless your house is solid metal or concrete, it will be eaten flush with the foundation in no time. Munch munch munch, next!
All seriousness aside, if you have no roots or buried sticks close to your slab, I wouldn't over-do it on prevention. I wouldn't want to make it too easy to dispense poison. Follow directions carefully, and make sure the termiticide is buried the proper depth and in correct quantities. If it filters to the surface, it can have a devistating effect on local wildlife. I have seen frogs, toads, and green lizards so spastic they could not feed themselves, and slowly waste away. It's a pitiful sight seeing the little critters trembling and their bones showing. I suspect the termiticide was over-applied (or buried too shallow) and it soaked to the surface. Ground water contamination is also a concern. Don't know about the latest termiticide. It may be more critter-friendly and groundwater-friendly.
