I've got the 1-1/2" PVC pipe installed, I don't trust it to stay on.
Should I drill thru 4-5 places across the blade and install 1/4" bolts & washers?
I hope the pics show enough detail, got dark fast.

That would last me 1 plowing, between the crushed stone and blacktop on the driveway. If I did install one, I'd use bungee cords for ease of replacement, salt and steel threads are enemies.

I tried that once. Pipe shattered in a couple hundred feet. I've got some steel pipe to weld some mounting tabs on. Never gotten around to it as I either wait until it's frozen solid underneath or can keep the blade raised enough if it's soft underneath.

I did the sllit PVC pipe trick once on an ATV blade. Pretty tough to get it on there, so much tension on the slit in the pipe, no way was it coming off by itself. Only needed it for the first couple storms, used the tractor after that so no idea if it would shatter in cold temperatures.

If you think you won’t need to pull it on and off a lot, you could put a few dabs of silicone caulk along the edge where the pvc meets the steel blade. Use a type that is good for use in cold temperatures. (I would not run a full bead, since that would be a real pain to take off later.)

I have not tried this myself, but have been thinking of it for this winter.

PVC gets brittle when near freezing, it will shatter the first use. You need to use black ABS pipe.
It's also hard to keep on the edge. I cut a slot in galvanized pipe, beat the ABS pipe over it, then anchored the metal pipe at each edge.
I'll try to post pics after I find all the parts for this winter.

You need to get a lot more pipe. That will last about a minute. Longer if you keep the blade up.
