PVC Pipe on cutting edge of snow blade

That way if you have a section you want to use the metal blade on, it's easy to remove.

That white pvc will shatter you need the black,it’s more flexible

PVC gets brittle when near freezing, it will shatter the first use. You need to use black ABS pipe.
It's also hard to keep on the edge. I cut a slot in galvanized pipe, beat the ABS pipe over it, then anchored the metal pipe at each edge.
I'll try to post pics after I find all the parts for this winter.

Yup you’re right I’ve had good luck with the abs after trying the pvc

I used 3" steel pipe for snow and it lasted for 10+ seasons. Don't use it no more because it makes my steep driveway very slippery

I've got the 1-1/2" PVC pipe installed, I don't trust it to stay on.
Should I drill thru 4-5 places across the blade and install 1/4" bolts & washers?

I have been using 2" PVC - 54" rear blower (on JD 850) - for 9 years. It does have shoes.

1000 foot gravel drive. Near Kalamazoo MI. First break was at 5 years, 2nd partial break last year. I put it on in segments, 2-3 feet each, cut to fit from whatever I have laying around. I cut a v notch in one end as a starter point and hammer the end on with a rubber mallet, then the rest will follow. Both times I broke a segment was when I went too fast into the lip of a concrete pad near my garage.

I have forgotten to raise the blade when moving forward a few times, nothing came off. I have flipped the pipes once (when the second break occurred, the section was still usable) you can see the wear in pic 4377. The break is barely visible in at the extreme right of 4376. Back view (ragged 'M' shape) of break in 4382. When that goes I'll have to replace just 2 feet of it, and the segments make it easier to put the pipe on. YMMV

This is the best I have found for asphalt. Tried two inch steel pipe, Two inch solid stock. both ware out too fast. This is 1x4 bar stock. It still does a good job on snow, but than my blade is pretty heavy.

I think the abs pipe is perfect for crushed stone driveways .. and especially when ground is not frozen as been the case here in eastern canada in recent years .. included a pic of a bracket i made to hold pipe onto bucket cutting edge . one on each end ..… i was having a problem when i would back up and forget to raise bucket in which case the pipe would come off ..brackets are much like a T but rounded to circumference of pipe …hope this helps

If you want something that will last, I found the Poly Cutting Edge (UHMW) that May Wes (Custom UHMW Poly Cutting Edge for Buckets and Snowplow Blades – $100 M) provides works great. You can have them customize it to whatever you need. They make them for buckets (my use) or plows.

I put one on my Kubota FEL 5 foot bucket after I put a new concrete driveway in. It protects the concrete and the bucket edge. The UHMW wears like steel. My concrete is brushed and quite rough. I've used the cutting edge during the winter and it shows very little wear. I take it off in the summer when I'm working in dirt.

I bought a 1" thick x 4" x 60" long for my bucket. If I every buy a new one, I'd go with the 6" wide option. They cut them with a beveled edge on both sides so you can turn them around and use the other side if they get worn too bad.

I have used that same stuff on a rear blade. I just got longer bolts and left the steel cutting edge in place.

The UHMW plastic cuts, drills and routs very easy. It is also very durable. Mine is going on 15 years but only gets used a few times per season.
