Did they ever find that one again, after the initial sighting? It seems like a 10 foot snake would be rather noticeable.

Nope they didn’t, the water in all the rivers and lakes up here at way to cold even in the dead of summer for any species of reptile from South America or Brazil to live more than a couple of days. Froze to death no doubt.

Invasive species are everywhere. Ever hear of Russian thistle? AKA tumbleweed. Himalaya blackberries? Asian carp? Japanese oyster? Gorse? The list goes on and on.
I don't like Asian carp.

Phragmites, autumn olive, Norway maple, Lupine, Japanese knotweed, common earthworm, are a just a few more on that list.

Every time I see one of the documentary's about the Florida snakes they NEVER show them destroying them.
They put them in a bag and take them away.
I want to see hat bands and Python Boots, or belts.
After a head shot!

They never show nuisance alligators being killed either, but after the gator is taken away, it is killed and turned into food and leather. I always thought it would be safer to kill the gator where it was caught and then haul it off but people would get upset that the poor gator was killed if they saw it put down.

I would guess that the snakes are handled in a similar manner.

While invasive plants are bad, very bad, the pythons are a bit worse since the snakes can kill off endangered populations of deer and birds. FLA has had trouble with invasive plants seemingly forever but the recent escape of invasive animals is a bit different. I don't really see how the snakes can be wiped out any more than the Oscars and walking catfish. Just a mess.

The boys down there need to find some good bar-b-cue recipies, smoked meat, maybe some grills that can do a python roast. Guided Python hunts, get a tannery going, have some length/ weight derby contest?

Is true that properly prepared snake tastes like fried chicken?

One of the problems with the snakes is that they are in the Everglades/Water Management Districts. The only way around is in swamp buggies, air boats and maybe paddle craft. There are roads on the dikes but those are locked off, and even then, the area of the roads is small. One might see a snake but it is not likely. The area is all swamp land with a few islands/high areas here and there. Unless one has the right equipment, there is really no easy way to get around out there. Even with the equipment, one is looking for a needle in a hay stack. Even a large snake is going to be all but impossible to see in the saw grass in the swamp or brush on the high ground.

They should be able to develop and place traps in places that only the constrictors would be able to enter..

The ACE initially all but ruined the everglades...now an ecological disaster (caused by humans) has destroyed the natural food chain...

There was a time not long ago that ate what you could kill, there was not anything else.
