I have a set of QA forks that I was planning to use to move palletized firewood. What happens if you try to lift too heavy a load?? Will it simple not elevate or will something break??

Depends if the forks are stronger than you lift.
Probably your hydraulics will by-pass before anything breaks, assuming the forks are up to it.

What happens when hydraulics bypass??

Almost all QA forks are rated to lift at least 4000lbs and the manufacturer of your forks can tell you the rating. There are very few if any CUTs with loaders that can exceed that rating.

Everytime you try to lift something that is heavier than your loader is designed to lift it will bypass. It doesn't do any damage. I don't know whether you'd get overheating if you just leaned on the FEL control for half an hour while the loader was in bypass but for rational use there is no problem caused by going to bypass. It is a safety device to protect the equipment.

10-4 IT. That's reassuring

Yea...nothing catastrophic will happen...except what you are trying to lift....won't.

Thats a funny reply, I think his back end will go up if the forks are in the front, he has a serious tractor, just look at his implement list

With a serious tractor and a list of implements like that then he has plenty of ballast laying around to utilize to keep his rear on the deck:)

Yea. I'll use disc harrow to balance heavy FEL loads or BB for lighter loads. . Still gettin ballast box up to speed. Thanks.

Lifting the rear end is not that difficult even with ballast. I have a 600lb mower on the back of my 4000+lb DK40se and can still lift the rear tires by trying to "lift" out a tree with the grapple. I don't know when the bypass would kick in on my loader but as I don't enjoy popping reverse wheelies I tend to release pressure on the loader when my rear goes up.
